Welcome to The Dragons Back, the highest pub in the Brecon Beacons National Park, a Country Inn with plenty of accommodation, b&b rooms, bunkhouses and a campsite.

A Little History

The Dragons Back pub & bunkhouse is over 300 years old, it was originally a hill farm owned by The Glan Usk Estate. Over the years the farm gradually became a pub. We are over 1000ft above sea level ( highest pub in the Brecon Beacons).
Originally the pub was called The Castle Inn, named after the iron age hill fort ( Castell Dinas ) the ruins stand on the hill directly behind the pub. We have decided to rename it The Dragons Back, after the ridge leading from Castell Dinas.
The Dragons Back ( formerly The Castle Inn ), is the highest pub in the Brecon Beacons National Park, a Country Inn with plenty of accommodation, b&b rooms, bunkhouses, Shepherds hut,Tardis and a campsite.

Located in a glorious valley, over 1000ft above sea level in The Black Mountains – part of The Brecon Beacons National Park.

We cater for all customers, particularly large groups e.g. Stag/hen/bikers & corporate/military team building – due to the size and nature of our accommodation, bunkhouse, b&b and Shepherds hut & Tardis we can sleep up to 42 people indoors, we also have a small camp site, for tents only. All our accommodation is available at very reasonable prices.

We are ideally situated for the local towns of Brecon, Hay on Wye & Crickhowell.
A whole host of activities are available on our doorstep, and you can mountain bike – The killer loop, or hike a huge variety of walks straight from the Inn . The whole of The Black Mountains are literally on our doorstep.
The pub provides generous servings of very tasty home cooked food, a fine selection of local real ales, with a huge log fire on one side of the pub, and a lovely log burning stove with leather sofas to sit on.
Alternatively you can stay in one of our bunkhouses/bunkbarn, and cook with a fully equipped self-catering dining kitchen, fire pits and BBQ’s are not allowed.

We regularly cater for guests from all over the UK, and quite frequently from further afield, we believe this cosmopolitan mix, helps give The Dragons Back a very special and welcoming atmosphere.
