Our bunkhouse is a traditional stone barn
Our bunkhouses are housed in a traditional stone barn some 400 years old. Located at over 1,000 feet above sea level in the rural heart of the Black Mountains, which make up the Eastern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, there are spectacular views of the surrounding hills. It’s also right next to our pub, The Dragons Back.
The bunkhouses are divided into 3 bunkrooms, which are 3 separate totally private and lockable dormitories with full sized bunk beds, table and chairs, with coffee and tea making facilities and ensuite bathrooms. Bunk 12 contains 6 bunks (sleeping space for 12), with 2 en-suite wetrooms, bunk 10 contains 5 bunk beds (sleeping 10), with 2 en-suite wetrooms. Upstairs sleeps 6 ( bunk 6 ), with it’s own ensuite shower room. Each bunkroom or bunk house has it’s own individual access, the bunkrooms can be rented separately or interconnected for larger groups. The Bunkhouses are basic but clean accommodation, ideal for stag groups etc.
The whole barn is carpeted and fully centrally heated using an oil fired boiler, there is a plentiful supply of hot water, and all the wet rooms have access to power showers- just what you need at the end of a tiring day. Pillows and fitted sheets are provided, so all you’ll need is a sleeping bag or duvet and a towel. Each bunkroom has a table and chairs. There is a kettle and mugs in each bunkroom – so don’t forget your brewing up stuff! The water is Welsh Mountain spring water, filtered, safe and tested regularly.
In total we can accommodate groups of up to 28 across the three different bunkhouses. We book the bunkhouses in their entirety on a B&B basis or bed only eg if you booked bunkhouse 6, you would pay a set amount for the room, which would include breakfast for the group, or bed only for the group.
Breakfast consists of juice/tea/coffee, cereals, toast and a cooked breakfast and is available from 8 to 9 am.
All prices are outlined on our prices page.
Dogs are allowed in the bunkhouses, at an extra cost of £5 per dog, per night.
(The kitchen is currently unavailable due to covid crisis)solely for the use of residents of the bunkhouses, it must not be used by anyone else, including campers. Please treat the equipment/furnishings with respect, and leave it as you found it. Due to health and safety and insurance reasons, no cooking can take place after 10.30pm, and the kitchen will be closed at last orders or 11pm, whichever is later.
Both the bunkhouses and Inn are ideal for groups – walking or biking clubs etc, training activities, get-together’s, reunions, clubs, parties, stag or hen groups. There is ample parking for cars and minibuses and safe storage for bikes. We only accept stag groups who will eat and drink in the pub and no BBQ’s/fire pits are allowed. There are a huge range of activities available in the nearby area, just ask for details.
Bed and breakfast is also available in the pub next door, for group members who may want a little more privacy and creature comforts.
