Just terrific! The initial greeting of “we don’t stand on ceremony here” makes you feel welcome and sets you up for a pub stay that is relaxed and fun. If you are fortunate to be there on a Friday or Saturday make sure you dine at the pub. Good food and good fun. After breakfast take the path that leads up to the Iron Age fort above the pub. Well worth it.
Just spent a fantastic weekend at the Dragons Back pub. Third time visiting and it never disappoints. Accommodation is excellent, the food is excellent and the beer is, well, excellent! Our hosts, Ahmed and Jill, were on top form and I hope Jill is thoroughly enjoying the new Shardlake mystery as much as I am! Can not recommend this place highly enough, 15 out of 5.
Great pub, wish it was my local.
We stayed in the campsite for 1 night, it has loos a shower & lots of space for pitching up. Nice variety of beers & ales, excellent food menu, I highly recommend the swan in caviar total bargain at that price! The landlord was like a real one & was a good laugh, made us feel welcome. We will go back, may try the Shepard’s hut or b & b as it gets cooler.
The Dragons Back Pub and Bunkhouse, is the highest pub in the Brecon Beacons National Park, a Country Inn with plenty of accommodation, four b&b rooms, three bunkhouses and a Shepherds hut for glamping. We also have a small but perfectly formed campsite, perfect for watching those starry nights in a designated dark skies area.
Located in a glorious valley, over 1000ft above sea level in The Black Mountains – part of The Brecon Beacons National Park.
We cater for all customers, particularly large groups e.g. Stag/hen/bikers & corporate/military team building – due to the size and nature of our accommodation, bunkhouse, b&b and Shepherds hut we can sleep up to 40 people indoors, we also have a small camp site, for tents only. All our accommodation is available at very reasonable prices.
We are ideally situated for the local towns of Brecon, Hay on Wye & Crickhowell.
A whole host of activities are available on our doorstep, and you can mountain bike – The killer loop, or hike a huge variety of walks straight from the Inn . The whole of The Black Mountains are literally on our doorstep.
The pub provides generous servings of very tasty home cooked food, including our speciality of steaks served on a hot rock – a 400 degree centigrade lava stone. A fine selection of local real ales, with a log burning stove in the bar area, and another lovely log burning stove with leather sofas to sit on, in the lounge area.
Alternatively you can stay in one of our bunkhouses/bunkbarn, which is located adjacent to the pub, and cook in a fully equipped self-catering dining kitchen.
We regularly cater for guests from all over the UK, and quite frequently from further afield, we believe this cosmopolitan mix, helps give The Dragons Back a very special and welcoming atmosphere.
